Deb is a versatile writer who serves a range of clients and publishes in a variety of journals and online venues. Her flash essays have appeared in Brevity, The Sun, River Teeth’s Beautiful Things, The Los Angeles Review, and others. Her longer work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and has appeared in multiple newspapers, magazines, and literary and academic journals, including Creative Nonfiction, LitHub, The Washington Post, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and MELUS.
As a professional writer and editor, Deb serves businesses, nonprofit organizations, and educators. Much of her work centers around higher education in the areas of health care, education, and special education. This focus grew logically from Deb’s former careers as both a professor of English and a tutor for learners with dyslexia. Deb earned her PhD in American literature from the University of Maryland, where she studied childhood innocence in American literature. She has completed a memoir about academic life that is currently under consideration at a number of small presses.
When not writing or editing (or reading!), Deb escapes to the outside where she gardens, hikes, or rides her bike. As a cycling enthusiast, she recently completed a 3-month self-contained transcontinental bicycle trip from Yorktown, Virginia, to Astoria, Oregon. The 4,300-mile journey revealed the beauty of this amazing continent and the kindness and generosity of the American people. Deb is currently writing a novel about this adventure!
